Different concepts combined in objects

Norse and Christian concepts were often melded into hybrids. This merging was a natural consequence of a changing world. The many combined concepts can be clearly seen in the written sources and in the design of objects.

On pendants and brooches of different kinds old symbols such as the hammer of the Aesir god Thor and the triquetra eternity symbol alternate with the Christian cross. The new and the old were often combined in one object, which then took on a new and more complex meaning.
