Recycling of bronze and silver

Bronze casters and silversmiths made jewellery and other objects and decorated them with animal ornamentation. The raw materials were very often discarded bronze objects or silver coinage, which were melted down, recast and shaped into new precious objects.

Bronze casting was also steeped in ritual. Just as smithwork, waste from casting was sometimes deposited in pits in ritual contexts.
