Brooch

Oval, gilded silver brooch. The motif is dominated by a large cross interwoven with an X-shaped figure. Both have niello decoration in engraved furrows and small pits. The 'arms' of the X-shaped figures are ended with palmettes. The brooch is west European/Carolingian. Grave find, Birka, Bj 501, Adelsö Parish, Uppland.
