Posament-ribbon

Braided passementerie of wier silver wire (meaning the silver is wound round a core thread). The braid is sewn onto a silk fabric, woven in samite, of which three different lengths have been preserved. Certain sides of the silk fabric have a sharp edge, probably because the fabric was cut in ribbons which were then assembled using the passementerie or attached to a garment. The passementerie begins with simple knots, 5-3 after each other. Then it is divided and two knots are made next to each other, then alternating single and double knots. The passementerie and the ribbon probably adorned a garment. Grave find, Birka, Bj 944, Adelsö Parish, Uppland.
