Ornamented everyday implements

Wood was the raw material for buildings, ships and boats. But household utensils, tools, beds, chairs and benches were also made from wood.

Using axes and saws, hammers, chisels and knives these skilled carpenters and joiners decorated these objects or attached metal fittings.
