Grave bread
Round 'hole cake', baked with honey-soaked rye dough. Breaking bread was an important part of the burial rituals, but usually only very small charred fragments of bread remain. This hole cake is uniquely well-preserved and the place where a part was broken off for the ceremony is clearly visible. The hole cake was found in this condition, placed over the cremated remains in a sepulchral urn. Grave find, Häggvik, Sollentuna Parish, Uppland.
