Coin pendant

Pendant from a silver coin minted in around the year 925 in York under the aegis of the Viking king of Northumbria, Sihtric in (921-927). On the obverse side is a sword, between two lines of text and a small hammer (under the loop). On the reverse side a cross with dots in the angles. The coin is unusual because it is minted so early. Of the many Viking-era coins from the British Isles that have been found in Scandinavia, almost all are from the time after about 973, when a coin reform was implemented. The British coins bear witness to the contacts that existed between the Viking colonies and the motherland. Grave find, Birka, Bj 963, Adelsö Parish, Uppland.
