Key

Bronze bolt lock key Richly ornamented shaft with perforated decoration finished with a palmette. Within the shaft there is an abstract depiction of humanlike figure with the upper body in the crucifixion position. Another, even more abstract figure has a grip on the crucified one’s arms, perhaps with the idea of lifting him and keeping him alive. The key has very little sign of wear and was probably only used as a symbol, perhaps of St Peter’s key to paradise. Stray find with unknown findspot, possibly from the region around Kalmar.
