Coin (penning)

Danish silver coin minted in the 1060s in Lund for King Sweyn II Estridsson (1047–1076) partly based on the Byzantine model. On the obverse side there is a bethroned Christ and on the reverse side a stylised cross. The inscriptions around the edges consists of runes, which is almost unique in the history of Scandinavian coins. It was normal at that time to use Latin script on coins. Part of a hoard find, Fjälkinge by, Fjälkinge Parish, Skåne.
