Tar swab

Tar swab. For the ongoing maintenance of ships and boats rags were wrapped around a staff and soaked in tar which was then daubed over the planking, and other parts of the boat. Found in the bottom sediment, in the waters outside Birka, Adelsö Parish, Uppland.
