Spear head

Long iron spearhead, lancet-shaped blade and triangular ferrule. In the transition from blade to ferrule it is decorated with a large four-armed rosette cross with gilded silver damascening which is ornamented in the arms of the cross with floral decoration resembling the life tree. The ferrule is decorated with niello animal loops and braiding patterns in combination with gilded silver damascening. The smith may have been inspired by the legend of the Lance of Longinus. Stray find Klinta, Follingbo Parish, Gotland.
