Textile fragments

The textile fragments do not seem like much to the world in general. Those who look closely will see clear traces of colour, with hues from blue to burgundy. What looks like loose pieces of wool were originally woven into a plain weave base, creating a pile fabric. It is difficult to say what this was used for, but similar weaves have functioned as borders for wrap kirtles, blankets, cloaks and hats. Grave find, Birka, Bj 750, Adelsö Parish, Uppland.
