Brooch

Unusual iron brooch, made from a triangular-plate. At one end a perpendicular pin holder with a smaller nail attachment in the other, broader end. It has certain similarities with those brooches which were used by nomadic tribes from the Black Sea and the Caucasus during the Khazaric period, in the 8th and 9th centuries. An alternative interpretation is that it was rather part of a lock for a chest. The object was found under a paved terrace which itself has been dated to the 11th century. Settlement find, Norrtil, Sankt Olof Parish, Uppland. Loan from Sigtuna Museum.
