Weight

Round weight with weight marking on the flattened poles. The weight was made of iron with a bronze outer shell. The shell functioned as a means of ensuring that no one could file off the metal and make the weight lighter. The weight markings were stamped on the poles. The weights were arranged in sets of different weights creating a system of weights. The one used in Scandinavia was influenced by systems used in the Islamic Caliphate and by the Volga-Bulgars in south-east Europe. Findspot unknown, Gotland
