Coin (penning)

Swedish silver coin minted circa 995 in Sigtuna for king Olaf the Swede (approximately 995–1022) based on the English model. The obverse side bears the inscription 'ONLAF REX AN STUE' ('Olaf King of Sigtuna'). Olaf the Swede was the first Swedish king to issue coins. The obverse side of the coin bears the inscription GOPNE MON ATA SIT ('Godwine moneyer in Sigtuna'). The name of the moneyer Godwine also appears on Danish and Norwegian coins. Part of a hoard find, Digeråkra, Barlingbo Parish, Gotland.
