Coin (penning)
Swedish silver coin minted in Sigtuna in around 1000–1005 for king Olaf the Swede (approximately 995–1022) based on the English model. On the reverse side of the coin we see the inscription 'ÞREGR ON SIT' ('Thregr in Sigtuna'). The moneyer Thregr has a Scandinavian name with no parallel in England. He probably belonged to that generation of local moneyers who took over when the English experts that Olaf had brought in returned home. Findspot unknown.
