Spikes

Iron shoe spikes. Spikes were attached using straps around the shoes. These would help the dead make their way to the underworld, Hel, unscathed. The way there ran 'downwards and northwards" and was always covered with ice. Grave find, Helgö, Ekerö Parish, Uppland.
