Gold thread

Gold threads. As gold does not emit any metal salts which contribute to preservation none of the fabric remains. But the threads still retain the design of the technique used to create the fabric and we can glean an indication of how they were used/what they looked like. There is some thin thread that was used as weft in tablet-woven bands, spun thread that has been braided, continuous thread which has been used to embroider with, and continuous thread woven into fabric using the Soumak technique. Common to all is that they were used as decorations on clothing and accessories Grave find, Birka, Bj 750, Adelsö Parish, Uppland.
