Crucifix
Silver crucifix pendant with filigree. The Christ figure is tied not nailed to the cross. His face is almond shaped with a strong chin and pronounced eyes. In the literature this pendant is often called the "Birka Crucifix". Design and technique reveal that this is Swedish craftwork, appearing to be one of the oldest crucifixes in Scandinavia. It may initially have been gilded, since a similarly made example was found as a stray find during metal detecting in the southern Scandinavian (Danish) region. Grave find, Birka, Bj 660, Adelsö Parish, Uppland.
