Penance

The man prices (penance, blood money) for the murder or manslaughter of a free person varied. Killing a person who was not from or resident on Gotland cost 10 marks in silver. A perpetrator who had the means and possibility could pay with silver objects of a combined weight in today's measurements of approximately 2 kg. 16 objects from hoard finds, Gotland parishes Alskog, Attlingbo, Barlingbo, Björke, Boge, Bro, Bunge, Dalhem, Eke, Eksta and Vamlingbo.
