Pendant
Round tin pendant cast from a rare Russian silver coin from Grand Prince Yaroslav the Wise (1019-1054). On one side there is the image of George, Yaroslav's patron saint. On the other side there is a stylised bird of prey or trident, the symbol of the Rurik dynasty. Coins of this type were probably minted in Novgorod. The fact that pendants of this type were found in Sámi sacrificial sites indicates connections between northern Scandinavia and the regions east of the Baltic. Part of a hoard find, Unna Saiva, Gällivare Parish, Lappland.
