Cushion

Fragment of a patterned cushion or pillow with partially preserved stuffing. Found at head height in a grave. The cushion is woven with weft rip weave (tapestry technique) so that the weft covers the warp. The fabric has clear traces of dye, including red and dark blue/black and picked patterns in red and blue. The weave is very fragile and the stuffing has not been investigated further. Grave find, Birka, Bj 739, Adelsö Parish, Uppland.
