Tabletwoven band

Gold weft from a tablet-woven band, 1.5 cm wide and preserved to a length of approximately 26 cm. The band was woven using at least 19 tablets. The weft is a continuous gold thread which is doubled. No traces of the warp or the base weft have been preserved, but they were probably silk. This kind of band was usually used as a decoration on garments, hats, bags or scabbards. Grave find, Birka, Bj 844, Adelsö Parish, Uppland.
