Brooch

Oval gilded silver brooch. Decorated with west European, Carolingian floral decoration in the form of a branched tree of life. The trunk is niello and the branches are filigree. The brooch was originally a strap mounting which was apparently reworked in Scandinavia. Grave find, Birka, Bj 543, Adelsö Parish, Uppland.
