Skull

Part of the skull of a young boy, aged around 4 to 5. The cavities which can be seen in both eye sockets, Cribra orbitalia, reveal that he suffered from severe anaemia, probably as a result of repeated stomach conditions and infections. Long-term stress can also produce such conditions in eye sockets. Grave find, Rojhage, Grötlingbo Parish, Gotland.
