Coin (penny)

English silver coin minted circa 997–1003 in Lincoln for king Ethelred II (978–1016). The obverse side of the coin shows the king in profile with a draped cloak while the reverse side of the coin shows a long cross ending in half moons. This type of coin (the 'Long Cross') was imitated by many coin makers outside England, particularly in Ireland and Scandinavia. Part of a hoard find, Stige, Indal Parish, Medelpad.
