Coin (penny)

Pendant from an English silver coin printed in about 1009–1016 in York for King Ethelred II (978–1016). The coin has images of birds engraved on both sides. On the obverse side we see two birds in opposing positions, a motif that occurs throughout the Viking Age. Part of a hoard find, Halsarve, När Parish, Gotland.
