Round brooch

Large round brooch with silver chain and hanging ring. On the brooch the biblical scene is depicted with the Paradise metaphor with deer drinking from the well of life and thirsting after 'the living God'. The three deer are surrounded by four beasts of prey looking at the scene with raised necks and staring eyes. The brooch was worn by a well-to-do woman who was perhaps baptised in accordance with Christian beliefs. Part of a hoard find, Högby kyrka, Högby Parish, Öland.
