Shield handle mount

Bronze mounts from a shield handle. Moulded, T-shaped, depicting head, shoulders and arms of a man. The mount is the lower part of the actual handle fastening, which was located on the back of the shield behind the boss. The upper part is missing but probably was of the same shape and appearance. Between the mounts, at the beginning of the head of the figure, was the handle itself. Grave find, Birka, Bj 850, Adelsö Parish, Uppland.
