Glass beaker

Cylinder-shaped beaker of thick, colourless glass. The beaker has ground decoration with pomegranate, pinecones, birds and a "life tree". In the decoration there can also be seen remnants of inlays of a green glass cullet. The glass beaker is the only intact one from the Islamic region to be found in Scandinavia. Probably made in modern-day Iran or Iraq during the 9th century. Grave find, Birka, Bj 542, Adelsö Parish, Uppland.
